Respond to the quote: "Comparison is the death of joy".
People sometimes forget and make a big mistake comparising the person. In my opinion it is awful to compair one with the other because during this process the person loses his identity and appears in a situation where he can’t express his own ideas, his own opinion and he carries the influence of others. There was one instance about which I want to talk and by this way explain why I think that it is very difficult and wrong to compear peple.
Mary was a young and talanted girl. She took up painting at the age of 7 and had done many good works. Once she read an announcement in the newspaper which said “Imagine you being a mature artist and draw a picture inspired by nature and express your taughts and feelings on it. The winer of the competition will be admitted to the Art Institute and get a scholarship.”
Hearing that information Mary hasitated a little but then decided to take part. She collected her water-colours, her canvas and went to the seaside. She decided to paint in the open air and to depict the game of light and shade which was on the water. It costed her much effort to depict it exactly but when the work was done she looked at is and couldn’t help her admiration.
The next day she took her work to the Institute where the competition should be held. She was very glad to be there and without any doubt that she would be admitted gave the picture. After an hour a lady from one of the rooms went out and told her that her picture was admited. Mary joyfully returned home.
On the day of the commpetition the exhinit hole was very crowded. She was late and when she entered the hole she heard how two girls were stending against the picture and compair her picture with the other which was hang next to her’s. They were commenting the picture saying many unkind words adding that the picture would become a laughing-stock. It was their own idea but it harted Mary very much. Her heart was broken and as she was very upset ran away from the exhibition. All her joy was vanished away.
She wanted to give up painting thinking that all her efforts were useless.
She was on the way of becoming the member of pear pressure but fortunetly two days letter she reseived an e-mail. It was from the Art Institute. Reading it, it become obvious that her picture drew a great croud and it admired the jury with the elegance of its colours, where the landscape and the game of light merge into a single entity.
Mary was shoked as she didn’t accept that kind of comment and decision. She was convinced that it was wrong decision and decided not to make a mess of that comment and continue painting, as her lifetime dream was to become a prominent, outstanding and mature artist.
So with this example I want to prove that being comparised with the other can drive you from your road do not letting you be creative and develop as an individual. Clarifing I can say “comparison is the death of joy”.
