Coordinators' Role
Write On! is an international creative writing competition sponsored by Peace Corps volunteers and open to participants in form 6, form 7, form 8, form 9, form 10, form 11, form 12, university level 1, university level 2, university level 3, university level 4, and professional.
Coordinators lead one or more creative writing workshops in their communities to teach participants about brainstorming, creative thinking, writing techniques, and story planning. Below are resources to help coordinators plan lessons for these workshops.
The competitions are held in communities on a different day from the workshops. The Write On! national coordinators will email community competition coordinators the writing prompts two days before their local competitions. There are two prompts for each level. Participants must choose one of the prompts for their level and have one hour to write their responses. All writing is in English and spelling and grammar is not considered in the evaluation process; winning pieces are chosen for their cohesiveness and creativity in responding to the prompt.
Coordinators in each community judge their participants based on a rubric provided and send the top 2 pieces for each level to judges in Yerevan for the national competition. The top two pieces from each level nationally then are sent on to Tblisi for international judging. Certificates are provided for coordinators to print and distribute for participation and achievement at all levels.
Just to note, there is no participant travel involved. Participants write their pieces in their communities and the winning pieces only will move on through the competition process.
